Practices
We have weekly practices from September through our last meet in April. Sometimes we offer more practice opportunities. Practice locations are in Enumclaw. We work with other sports to help you have as many opportunities as possible.
Meets
We have 3 meets (February, March, April). The State Championships is in May and the Pacific NorthWest Invitational Championships (PNWIC between WA and OR) is in June. Each event starts on Friday morning and ends on Sunday afternoon. There are stalls and camping at every venue.
Athletes
Athlete Uniforms are a long sleeved black polo, WR Equestrian Team logo on the front left, your number on the back. You also wear the appropriate clothing for the discipline your riding from the waist down. Helmets are required whenever mounted or driving a cart. We offer additional "gear", hoodies and jackets with the team logo and your number. You get your 4 digit number your first year, you keep the same number the whole time your in WAHSET. Students in 9th-12th grade are eligible for WAHSET. We can co-op schools that don't have a WAHSET team, currently we have riders from Bonney Lake and Federal Way as well as White River.
cost
What does it cost to participate in WAHSET? Annual enrollment is around $230. Practice fees are between $5-$10 per practice depending on the venue. Meet fees are just the cost of the stalls and camping or hotel. Stall fees are around $60, camping $30/night. This varies but is close to these numbers. There is also the initial cost of the uniform (around $35) and any additional clothing you want.
HOWEVER.... we do offer fundraising opportunities all year, many athletes earn enough money to completely pay for all their costs for their year in WAHSET including practices.
Awards
At every meet, the athletes will be placed by their scores in each event they compete in. These scores are posted to the "score board" in the arena soon after the event ends. At the third meet the top 1st, 2nd & 3rd place athletes in each event, based on their cumulative scores, are awarded Bronze, Silver and Gold medals. These athletes, and qualified alternates, are eligible for the State Championships. This is usually held in Moses Lake, WA. The top 3 athletes in each event at the State Championship will earn Bronze and Silver medals and 1st place earns a belt buckle. The top 5 from every event will be eligible for PNWIC, the Pacific NorthWest Invitational Championships, this is the competition between Washington and Oregon. It alternates between Moses Lake Wa and Redmond Or each year. This is the final competition for the WAHSET season.
Athletes in WAHSET can earn their athletic "letter" through their school. This is awarded by the head coach based on the athlete's participation and contribution to the team, not by the scores the athlete earned.
